Be Better, Be a Betty: How to Tie a Paracord Curb Strap

Have you fallen in love with our new silicone beaded curb straps? If so, this is a quick and easy, step by step guide on how to tie your new curb strap!

Step One: Simply pull the long, loose paracord ends through the top of your bit purchase ring, going from the inside and pulling towards your to the outside.  Please note some gag bit designs may have a dropped or extended ring like shown in the larger image above while other bit designs only have one ring at the top of your bit purchase. After looping through the top of your bit, pull the loose ends down through the smaller paracord loop near the knot (as shown in image one!)

Step Two:  After looping the loose paracord ends through the small loop, wrap the ends towards the back. Tying Tip to remember: Loop Back, Tie Back.  As long as you loop towards the back, your loose ends will finish out facing the back as well.  This keeps your ties sharp looking and out of your horses mouth during use. Take the ends of the paracord and pull in the middle of the loop like shown in the image below.  Your loose ends should now be facing towards your horse's bit!

Step Three:  Third, take the forward facing loose ends, and come back around to feed it through the backwards loop like shown in the image below.  Tying Tip to remember: Keep the loose ends and the entire knot below the top of the small loop. If you ever need to shorten or lengthen your curb strap, you can loosen the knot simply by pushing the small loop up.  This is just like tying a rope halter!  If it is tied any other way, you might have to cut it off or get a screw driver to loosen the paracord.

Step Four: Finally, you can pull the loose ends and securely tighten your curb strap to the desired length.  Tightening your curb strap:   Most horse trainers and riders follow the general rule of thumb to tighten your curb strap enough to allow two of your fingers to slide in between your horse's chin and curb.  Every horse is different, however, I personally like my silicone beaded curb strap lightly touching the bottom of my horse's chin.
